Our family of producers

Casa de Mouraz

casa-de-mouraz-encruzado-lgIn 2000 Sara Dionísio and António Ribeiro left their secure jobs in Lisbon and immersed themselves in what has become a family adventure: sustainable viticulture and authentic winemaking.

Mouraz, situated in the heart of Dão region, is António’s birth place, where his family have farmed vineyards in a holistic and ecological way for many generations. This is also a place where the landscape and terroir is shaped by its people and geography, old and new vineyards coexisting with the pine, oak, chestnut and cork trees in a wild forest. This diversity is reveals itself in the personality and complexity of the Casa de Mouraz wines, and reflects the couple’s love of the place.

The Mouraz farm is spread over several parcels with different soils (granite and clay) and altitudes ranging from 140 to 400 meters. All the vineyards that are part of Casa de Mouraz gained ECOCERT’s Organic certification in 1997.

Casa de Mouraz is available exclusively at J Webb Wine Merchant in Calgary.

Quinta de São Sebastião

Quinta de São SebastiãoThe Quinta de São Sebastião project came about through the desire of its owner, António Parente, to put the Arruda dos Vinhos region on the map, bringing its producers together in a unique project, under the umbrella of the Quinta de São Sebastião brand.

The intention of this challenge is to unite wines and producers in a structuring project for the region, fighting perceptions by producing wines of exceptional quality, moving towards conquering a highly competitive market in brands and value propositions. The group’s mission is to develop wines with identity. Quinta de São Sebastião has the ambition of producing high quality wines, with great creativity in the blends, capable of competing against the best national and international productions with regard to good quality wines. In other words, to embrace, body and soul, the challenge of bringing the Arruda dos Vinhos region back to life.

Quinta de San Sebastiao is available exclusively at J Webb Wine Merchant in Calgary. For Edmonton distribution, click here.

vilacetinhoIf you traveled to Portugal and happened upon Casa de Vilacetinho, you’d be forgiven for likening it to an ancient monastery. The stone walls, wrought iron and tiled roof looks like it belongs in a period film because it has exactly those ancient roots.  Once the site of the medieval Alpendurada Monastery, today the property is covered with grape vines. The wines found here are ‘Vinho Verde’ or ‘green wine’, in essence a young wine; with character, freshness and fruitiness. One of the winery’s major claims to fame was serving its wines to Queen Elizabeth II during a Royal Visit to Portugal. To taste wine that’s fit for a queen, get thee to Metrovino in Calgary.
